Pursuing Certifications: Gaining a Competitive Edge

Southwest Johnson County EDC President, Greg Martinette, is currently in the process of pursuing two new certifications that will validate the community’s readiness for new businesses to locate to the area. Site certification helps to expedite the site selection and development processes.

AEROready™

AEROready™ certified communities, regions and sites reduce risks for potential aerospace companies to locate in the certified areas. The certification validates the community/region is ready for an aerospace industry, that there is an ample supply of labor and quality sites, opportunities to customize the training of labor and the utility and transportation infrastructure is in place.

BNSF Railway

BNSF’s Site Certification Program identifies optimal rail-served sites and conducts in-depth reviews of ten economic development criteria to determine if the site meets BNSF’s stringent readiness standards, which are intended to minimize development risks customers may face. A customer who builds a new rail-served facility on a BNSF Certified Site is expected to save between six to nine months of construction time as a result of the site’s advanced level of preparedness for development.
