Just two years after being acquired by an out-of-town company, longtime Gardner sports medicine and training supplies manufacturer, Cramer Products, is finding new growth in the retail sports space.

Cramer Products is a wholly owned subsidiary of Akron, Ohio-based Performance Health Inc., which bought the company in August 2013. Its 250 products include wraps, cold packs, athletic tapes and liquid aerosols. During the past two years, Cramer began selling some of its wraps and gels at Dick’s Sporting Goods, Academy Sports + Outdoors and Scheels All Sports stores and is in the process of placing products in Wal-Mart stores.

The company has 37 employees at its Gardner location, which includes two warehouses and an office building.

Brothers Frank and Chuck Cramer started Cramer Chemical Co. in 1918 with a topical analgesic created in their mom’s kitchen. The company received endorsements for its athletic liniment from Notre Dame’s Knute Rockne in 1928. In 1932 the brothers became the U.S. Olympic track and field team’s first athletic trainers. They helped found the National Athletic Trainers’ Association in 1950.

Rob Mogolov is general manager of the facility located at 153 Warren St., Gardner, KS 66030. He can be reached at 1-800-255-6621.
