Kerry Ingredients is one of the sweetest companies located in New Century, KS, quite literally. They are a confection company that is equipped to produce up to 35,000 pounds of chocolate covered almonds a day at their New Century location. These almonds can be found in Costco stores across the U.S. What started out 40 years ago as a small dairy company southwest of Ireland, has expanded to an operation with factories on six continents.
Jon Herrs is the current Plant Manager and has been with the company for over five years. During our visit, Herrs touted the addition of a liquid nitrogen cooling system that was recently added. This gives Kerry Ingredients the ability to make ice cream products. In the future, Jon said that it would be ideal to be able to build a freezer or warehouse center at their New Century location, but there has been no timeline set for that goal.
With their new ice cream inclusions, fall and summertime have become even busier than in previous years. Kerry Ingredients is unique among its neighbors because they do not utilize the railroad located in New Century. Rail is not conducive to the sugar found in their products. They transfer all their products by truck. They are currently working to launch a new line and will be hiring Panners to help with the new project.
